Additional Information: Terms and Interface Concepts

This page explains key terms and concepts used across the Naplemosu website and review environment. It is intended as a reference for users who want to understand the language of the platform before engaging with it directly.

Terminology Used on This Website

The Naplemosu platform uses a consistent set of terms to describe its functions, components, and processes. The definitions below reflect how these terms are used in the context of this service. They are not intended as general-purpose definitions.

Review Environment

The review environment refers to the full set of interface components and processing functions that make up the Naplemosu system. When this website refers to the review environment, it means the operational platform accessible to users who have been granted access — not this informational website itself.

Classification

Classification refers to the process by which information items are assigned category labels within the system. The classification engine examines available attributes of each item and determines which category label best fits those attributes. The term "classification" on this website always refers to this systematic labelling process, not to any form of human judgement or independent assessment.

Review Queue

The review queue is an ordered list of information items that have been classified and are available for inspection within the interface. Items enter the queue after classification and remain there until they have been reviewed and their status updated. The queue is ordered by category and arrival time by default.

Status Indicator

A status indicator is a label attached to each item in the review queue that reflects its current position in the classification and review workflow. Status indicators change as an item moves through the system. They are descriptive of the item's state within the platform; they do not represent evaluations of the item's subject matter.

Structured Presentation

Structured presentation describes the approach the interface takes to displaying information: organising items into consistent panels, separating different types of information, and applying uniform formatting regardless of item type. The goal of structured presentation is predictability — users can expect the same layout and labelling conventions across all sessions and categories.

Enquiry

An enquiry is a formal submission made by a user via the Submit Enquiry page or by direct email. Enquiries may concern questions about the platform, requests for access, or questions about a specific classification or process. Each enquiry is treated as a distinct communication and is reviewed individually by the support team.

Access Request

An access request is a specific type of enquiry in which the user is asking to be granted use of the full Naplemosu review environment. Submitting an access request does not automatically grant access. It initiates a review process, the outcome of which is communicated directly to the user.

Summary View

The summary view is an interface mode that consolidates reviewed information across a category or session into a compact, readable format. It presents an overview of item states and category distributions without requiring the user to examine each item individually. The summary view does not apply additional interpretation to the displayed information.

Interface Concepts

The Naplemosu review interface is organised around a consistent set of concepts that users will encounter once they have access to the environment. Understanding these concepts in advance may help users navigate the system more effectively.

Navigation Column

The navigation column appears on the left side of the interface and allows users to move between different views: the main dashboard, the classification view, the review queue, the output or summary view, and settings. The active view is highlighted in the navigation column.

Main Content Area

The main content area occupies the central portion of the interface and displays the content of the currently selected view. In the review queue, it shows individual items and their classification details. In the summary view, it shows the consolidated overview of the selected category.

Record Expansion

Users can expand any item record to view its full set of attributes and the specific basis for its classification. Expanding a record does not modify it. It provides the additional context needed to assess whether a classification appears consistent with the available information.

How to Use This Reference
